Three common issues that acupuncture may help:

Pain

  • Cause: Blockage or malnutrition of organs, ligaments, tendons, etc.
  • How it works: Stimulation travels from the pain source through the spinal tract/brain to relieve pain/inflammation by releasing endorphins.
  • Used for: Lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica.

Stroke

  • Cause: Blockage or malnutrition to brain.
  • How it works: Stimulates weak muscles to release calcium ions and help regain lost strength.

"A healthy state of our physical body arises from a well-balanced mind and a daily-life pattern," adds Junsik (Jay) Kim, DTCM, LAc, an acupuncturist at Cleveland Clinic Logsdon Family Wellness Center for Integrative Medicine at Medina Hospital.

Nutrition

Making better food choices can help to prevent diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease.

“Even small changes to your diet over a long period of time can make a big impact on your health,” explains Alexis.

Dr. Schwartz recommends making the following modifications to your office/gaming setup for proper ergonomics:

  • Invest in a laptop stand.
  • Add an external keyboard.
  • Utilize a wireless mouse.
  • Make sure eye level is at the upper ⅓ of the screen.
  • Invest in an ergonomic adjustable chair.
  • Consider a sit-to-stand desk. 
In addition to a proper setup, Dr. Schwartz recommends doing some type of movement (stretches, yoga, or whatever movement you enjoy) every 30 to 45 minutes for both physical and mental benefits.

“Wellness, a key proponent of integrative medicine, is the future of healthcare. A balanced body is the best way to prevent disease and illness,” says Dr. Schwartz.

Acupuncture relieves pain and treats disease

Acupuncture is a minimally invasive technique involving insertion of sterile, filiform needle into acupuncture points located on specific body part to induce neuro-physiological mechanism of therapeutic effect and cell/tissue recovery.
